Kristie grew up in the area, attending school in Rolette, ND where she graduated from high school. Kristie attended Minot State University where she graduated in 1984 with a BS in elementary education, K-8, along with reading and math credentials. She worked as an elementary teacher at Rolette for 23 years before joining TMCC. She also taught Title 1 summer school for 14 years at Rolette Elementary School, working with K-6 students in the areas of math, reading and writing. In 2002 Kristie graduated from UND with a M.Ed with a cognate in reading education. Kristie has an interest in the reading-writing connection so in the summer of 2004 she attended the Red River Valley Writing Project at UND, which is a part of the National Writing Project, to gain more knowledge of the writing process.
At TMCC, Kristie is interested in instructing students using best practices through the reading-writing connection in all of the areas of the curriculum. She would like to prepare the teacher education students to use best practices, in a student centered environment, as they enter their career of elementary education on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation.
