Title III Strengthening Institutions Program

Introduction

With the assistance of a small grant from Title III in 1972, TMCC began its long standing higher education development partnership with Title III – Strengthening Institutions program. As a result, this affiliation has spawned new academic and vocational programs, developed student computer assistance and tutorial labs, upgraded technology for the students and the institution management systems, enhanced student services programs and assisted the development of a much needed new college campus facility.

The success of this partnership can best be expressed through the accomplishments of its 2,396 TMCC graduates – academic and vocational. Many have furthered their education to receive baccalaureate, masters, and doctorial degrees. Today, TMCC graduates are identified in leadership roles within the local community school systems, medical facilities, the justices systems, and the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Tribal entities. Others have achieved careers within organizations and businesses in the state and tri-state region.

The 2006 to 2011 Title III project provides for development of four new programs of study including a career ladder nursing program (LPN and RN), a two year and four year Criminal Justice degree, Residential Electrical and Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC). The project also is facilitating a distance education outreach to the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation’s service area located at Trenton in northwestern North Dakota. A second Title III activity provides for the development and implementation of an institution-wide Institutional Effectiveness Program.
